The Unpredictability of Life: Embracing the Unexpected
Life is seemingly all about chance, where you roll the dice and luck, or lack thereof as it sometimes seems like a cursed thing that some people have but others are just condemned-classified has its say. In the same breath, just as you can never know for sure what will appear on a dice roll, we will always be subjected to an unpredictable flow of surprises. We might take this spontaneity as a detractor, but our lives are so wonderfully unpredictable.
We discover that if we are open to the notion of chance, life gives us glorious surprises. Every twist and turn can bring unique opportunities and trials. Maybe it costs you a spontaneous road trip that reveals an unexpected gem of a destination, or meeting one stranger whose influence change your life. This is the reminder that often times our greatest experiences come from out of no where and to just continue further on this journey of embrace change.
Yet, that unpredictability can seem intimidating too. When we are faced with uncertainty, fear and anxiety tend to creep in. Most of us end up clinging onto our routine and the known because it feels safe. Necessity, however, is the mother of creating discomfort. Getting out of our comfort zone helps us to make ourselves stronger and flexible. And we can approach the inevitable unknowns in life not with fear, but with curiosity and openness.
Additionally, the metaphor about dice brings us to that old chestnut of all cliches: living in the now. Life, like a roll of the dice that takes only moments is simply gone and should be savored one moment at a time. When we are present, the joyous moments of life become more joyful and when faced with difficult times, being in touch grounds us in understanding how we can change things for ourselves.
All in all, this unpredictability of life is what makes it so brilliantly unpredictable. And we take a risk, not always knowing what is ahead: rounds of dice; but go and yeah the uncertainties. And, as all too often the case with life, that magic is found unbidden in these surprises. And hey, why not ride that wave and see where it goes!
